Oh Blogging!

So some day I'll get in the habit of Blogging on a more normal basis (more than just once a year). : / Until then I have alot of catching up to do! Yikes!

I LOVE reading other people's blogs, I have had people comment that they like reading my blog, and Josh constantly, NICELY, reminding me to do it.  I also had a friend remind me how great it is for keeping track of your family doings.  SO here goes... The Adventures of Cam and Josh since Oct 14th 2011!

2011 ended with not much happening.  Nothing else much in October.  In November, Bobby (Brother in Law), Lindsay (Sister in Law), and Scott (Brother in Law) came out for a week for Thanksgiving.  In December, Christmas was spent in Denver with the Dehncke family and in January, New Year's was in Utah with the Heidbrink Family.

2012 began with me loving my job of teaching 5th grade, part-time and Josh working full-time and going to school part-time.  In February, for Valentine's Day, we went to the Downtown Aquarium.  We spent about 2 hours walking through the Aquarium and then had a dinner next to a giant tank full of fish and even SHARKS.  The  price of the night included: walking around the Aquarium, a rose for me, dinner, and a picture.  Overall it was a fun and romantic Valentine's Day.
Isn't that a cute frame?

In March, we went back to Utah to celebrate Mark and Bobby's (Brothers in Law) birthdays.  We also built  raised garden beds in our backyard.  Which came out VERY nicely.
The Skidster (yellow digger thing) was used to take out a shed which then was disposed of like this:

In April, Josh, his dad and our neighbor Bryce put up a fence between our houses.  Bye bye big back yard.  No picture of that, but very similar to the fence in the picture above.

A HUGE event was going to the Kansas City LDS Temple.  For those of you who are not members, an LDS Temple is a building built as a House of God.  We go to the Temple for many reasons, including marriage and to make sacred promises to God. More questions about the Temple, JUST ASK!  So we went to Kansas City with my mom and Josh's parents.  We flew in Friday morning, checked into our hotel and then headed to the Temple.  Once a Temple is dedicated, only worthy, LDS members can go inside.  But before the dedication, there is an Open House where all are welcome.  We first watched a video about the Church and why Temples are special and important. Then we went on a tour of the inside.  My mom was very impressed by it's beauty and it was a special experience for me getting to explain some of what our Sealing was like inside of the Denver Temple.  Here are some pictures from the day:
Aren't we both SO photogenic. I think we both missed the memo about actually looking at the camera.  At least the background is pretty. :)

We also visited some important sites from the History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Independence, Far WestLiberty Jail , and the Monument of the 8 witnesses).

We also went for a hike up in Estes Park.  We started from Wild Basin Trailhead.  Here are some pics from the day:
River we hiked along.

Such a pretty day!

Pretty little church we saw on the drive.

I sure love those mountains!

Well, there is October through April.  Onto May through Present!!

Cam's Class Hike/Josh's Flight

It's about time we combined Cam's job and my hobby.

Cam took her class (with another fifth grade class) to hike to the Pawnee Buttes, in the Pawnee National Grassland.  (Location: http://g.co/maps/2694r).  I got to do some flyovers to take some pictures (Dad flew while I took pictures).  All in all, a fun flight!

Here's some pictures.

What's for Dinner?

Last Saturday my church had an event called Super Saturday. About a week before, we each signed up for different crafts we wanted to try. Then Saturday, we got to make the crafts. The one I made is a What's for Dinner board. It is a cookie sheet with magnets, labels, a pocket, and sticky notes attached. The little red circles are magnets, that have the days of the week, to hold on the meals for the week.  The sticky notes are for the shopping list. The pocket hold dinner ideas. It was alot of work, but I am very proud of it!

Adventures in Haircutting!

So Josh has always gotten his haircut by his  mom, so as a rite of getting married I got the PRIVILEGE of cutting his hair.  I had watched my mother-in-law, Pam, cut Josh's hair a few times and then I tried with her supervision. As Josh's hair got longer and longer, I knew it was time to step up to the plate.

We went to the store and Josh selected the "perfect" hair clippers.  We got them home and opened them only to discover that they had been used and were missing the cape (you know that thing you wear, when you get your haircut, so hair doesn't get all over you).  So it was back to store.

30 minutes later we were back home and ready to try again.  By this point it was 10:30.

First, I had to cut the whole head to 1 1/4".  This went fairly well, other then having to stop, use my ruler, and check the length every 30 seconds to check my work.  Then I  cut the next layer at 3/4".  This was easier, but my line started a TIDGE uneven.  Don't worry I fixed it.  Finally I moved onto the bottom layer at 1/2".

By this time it was about 11:30 and I was ready to move onto the scissors.  Poor Josh was getting sore from sitting for so long and was covered in hair.  The so called "cape"was a tiny bit of plastic that wouldn't even cover a midget! Anyways, back to the hair.

So next I used the scissors to even everything out.  These were VERY helpful to even everything out.  As I was clipping away, one side of Josh's head looked a lot more bushy and just would not behave.  I clipped here and clipped there and eventually evened it out.

Then it was onto neck and ears.  This went by smoothly with no problems.  I took off the cape and admired my work.  Josh went to go shower and I was left to clean up SO MUCH HAIR (man does that boy have HAIR).  Not more than 5 minutes later did Josh get out of the shower and show me plenty of spots that I had missed or were uneven.

Finally, it was about midnight and IT WAS FINISHED!! I know I still need lots of practice, but I was very proud of my first attempt.

Tasty Failure

Pizza was the decision for dinner.  We started off making everything together, but disagreed on a couple of points.  Spoiler: Cam's turned out better.

We attempted to make the dough together, though both batches ended up being a different consistency.

My pizza went in first (and was not as good as Cam's).

Cam's Pizza is just about to go in the oven, mine just came out.

We obviously didn't want to let the pizza cool off, so mine was eaten first.

My dough was super sticky, so it ended up being a misshapen blob style pizza

We found as we began attempting to eat this forsaken (yet pretty tasty) pizza was that it was not willing to part with the tin foil it had gotten to know for the last little while in the oven.

The crust was think, so it still worked....

Cam KNOWS mine was the best
(disregard the sausage bag right there, we made the sausage from scratch...honest.)

This is Cam's pizza that went into the oven next

The conclusion is: Cam's pizza actually came off the tin foil, so it was more of a pizza than the modified pizza I had.

Spins

I had a great opportunity the other day to practice some spin entries in a nice little Cessna.

(For those who don't know what they are, see here:

We didn't get into the fully developed spin, just about a 1/4 turn entry and then recovery.  All in all we loose about 1000 feet.

We took off, and while we were climbing and talking about the spins (I was a little nervous having never done one, and pilots hear all day long during training about how dangerous they are).  As we were approaching the safe altitude, I looked to my instructor and said "If you kill me, my wife is going to be furious."  He laughed and said "Mine too."

When he first showed me how to do the entry, I have to admit, it did make me reach up and grab the dash.  He then had me try one.  Natural reaction for me was to correct before the entry barely started, and I had to keep telling myself not to after I already started the recovery so the spin could develop.  It made me pretty queasy, which surprised me, but was definitely worth it!  I'm going to try and get up and do a full spin one of these days.
